Setting up permissions for fields

General Notes

  • Fields without any settings are consider to be open for view and edit to all users with access to the project.

  • It is always possible to fill in an initial value on create issue on a Protected Field.

  • After issue is created the Protected Fields settings will be applied.

  • Fields with view settings and no edit settings, can not be edited, only viewed.

  • Fields with  users in edit settings can view and edit the field value.

  • Fields with users not in view settings but in edit settings can view the field value and edit.

  • Fields with user not in the view settings or the edit settings can not view the field value.

  • Fields with users in the view settings and not in the edit settings can only view the field value but not edit it.

  • Protected Fields only works in the new Issue layout that Atlassian is promoting, due to limitations in the cloud platform.

  • Field with Field Context and Project Permission settings, will use the Project Permission Settings.

There are two ways to setup permissions:

  1. Via project in settings on the Protected Fields page

  2. Via Custom field context
